East Mesa is a nice place to live, but it's a bit far from everything. Check out the crime map. To kind of help you get an idea of Mesa and the srouding areas.

Mesa has some crime/gang problems but overall it's a good place. The FIesta Mall-Country Club Rd- Southern Avenue strip is probably the best area.

Mesa if fairly large and has its good spots and not so good spots
Traffic can be a mess especially when the snow birds come down
I wouldn't agree that its the best part of the city to live in though.
There are nice places in Mesa but there are also nice places on the West side and in other areas such as Tempe or Scottsdale.
NW Phoenix-- Peoria, Glendale has plenty of nice neighborhoods.
Sports facilities - Football, Hockey on west side of town
Baseball, Basketball - in downtown Phoenix.

It's a nice area. It's cheaper than surrounding areas (Chandler, Ahwahtukee, Tempe [around ASU] and Scottsdale). Summers are hot but the rest of the year temperature is wonderful. There's lots to do, though I'd say jobs (on the career level) are more in the cities mentioned above. AZ is a great place to come and start your life. It's a fun-loving area.

I heard it's not a bad place to live. Hotter than heck in the summer.

I grew up in Mesa, and lived there till a few years ago, in all over 30 years.
Mesa is good place to raise a family, the schools are good, the cost of living is fairly moderate, although it has crept up in the past few years. There are many parks, good shopping, movie theathers, resturants etc. There are also many churches, community groups, golfing etc, and ASU and Tempe are near as well. Phoenix also is also close and has sports teams (baseball, basketball, football, hockey, college sports too).
If you are looking for areas to live, east is better, newer and cleaner. The roads are well maintained, city services are good for the most part and the people are nice. Most neighborhoods have a pool and most of the junior highs have public pools as well.
It is hot, everywhere in the Valley is hot, so make sure you have a good AC unit in your car, and house.

I spent two months down there at the beginning of this year and couldn't stand it. I thought it was desolate feeling and seemed like everyone on the road was rude as hell. :( I'm a hippie at heart i guess, i like trees and other such greenery.
