Fear is an emotion and is generally used to control a person. A bully who invokes fear in his/her victim is controlling the behavior of that person, their is no respect in that. Respect is earned, the people who work for me respect me because I have proven that I do not expect them to do anything that I myself am unwilling to do. As a nurse, I have bathed patients and changed their linens and cleaned out bedpans just like the certified nursing assistants have to do, I have done the route nurses work when one was sick and unable to work, I have typed my own letters, sent my own faxes and answered the office phones when my administrative assistant was too busy keeping my office and my life in order. I think that in order to have respect you must be willing to show respect.

Respected. Just about anyone can scare someone into being afraid of them. It takes actual work to earn respect.
