Yep, it all started when Theodore Roosevelt went hunting and kindly released a baby bear.
That's the history of the name.
But in terms of the history of the teddy bear plush, this event inspired Richard Steiff to create a plush bear, n poof, came teddy bears.
Steiff is still around today and their products are highly collectible.
