OK all you pro poverty people out there...I'm asking this question under the assumption that ending poverty would be a GOOD thing, so please, no "we need poverty" comments. I've already heard that side of the argument...and I think it's safe to say that those who say that aren't out there starving to death or watching their parents slowly die of AIDS while they are just innocent kids.

Micro: Donate our time, money, energy, material goods, etc., towards those in need. For example: Volunteer your time and energy to the "soup lines"; donate money to the "soup kitchens", donate clothing, furniture, etc., to the needy. Extra help required in Christmas bureaus, Salvation Army, etc., from October to December...

Macro: Since the majority of those living in poverty are single mothers with young children: Teach them independence and self-sufficiency; educate them into believing in themselves; help teach their children that there's more to life than the kind of lives they live; give the mothers a hope they didn't know existed. Give them the necessary tools for survival.

Teach all poverty stricken people that there is a better life than simply living on welfare; give them a certain amount of time to be on welfare, only until they can stand on their own feet; set them up in motivational programs for low-income people who lack basic skills; Teach them the skills required to go out and look for work; teach them job hunting techniques, proper interview skills, acquire donations of proper job hunting attire. Give them a choice of looking for work, or returning to school, college, university to further their own education and improving their lives. Teach them the steps to take to reach their goals. Show them how to apply for free grants, if their present application is to attend post-secondary schools, to help them achieve this.

If they're in drug/alcohol rehab/recovery, give them the support and counselling they require. Direct them to the appropriate support groups where they'll get the support they need.

Offer volunteer work in the skidrow areas where you can begin planting "hope" into the hearts of the downtrodden.

No all the creationists are doing is playing word games by playing with the definitions. I still don't know what is meant by linking the words transitional and species. When it was first used it was in reference to feathered dinosaur fossil because they linked different genera. Now it seems like the creationists are trying to make it mean species crossing border lines between species. That is an obviously stupid concept. How can a separate species not be a separate species. If they are asking about hybrids then the world is full of examples. Varieties and races of species abound. When they hit the point that they don't breed together anymore then it is a new species by definition. Can you call a Quince a transitional species between apples and pears. Quince can fertilize apples, pears can fertilize quince. But quince only produce seed if it is a quince quince mating. Yes macro-evolution is real, yes it can be demonstrated. All you need to do is look in a seed catalog. We have quite a few domestic species that have diverged enough from the parent stock to not be able to breed back to it and others that diverged enough that when the parent stock died out they could not be crossed to recover it. This is a common problem for orchard operators. Only certain types of apple fertilize each other. sometimes the only real reason they are separate species is that they flower at different times. Sorry that this post is so late.

Because there are so many different causes of poverty, I don't think end would be the word, however, reduce. From there one must look at the causes.

Overpopulation is one cause. If there are more people than there are recources poverty will be common. The solution there is to reduce the number of people. How is another story.

High living standards, in my opinion, is another cause of poverty. I personally believe if the US didn't have such a high living standard more recources would be available to go around.

Education level is another cause. We live in a very competitive world and those who can't get the education to compete won't get the higher paying jobs. Unfortunately education is a short term invesment that has a long term effect that take a while to see.

Theres more but I don't have time.
