There are things called "Cliff's Notes" which give summaries of books.

(That's typically considered cheating, though, and if this 11 yr old that you are wanting to help is your child, then I don't think you'd be setting a good example for him by encouraging him to cheat. You should encourage him to read his assignments instead. JMO.)

A synopsis can give a brief overview of the book, but it is best to read the book itself. If you try to take the lazy way out, you deprive yourself of a good read. It's like me not reading Huckleberry Finn when I was supposed to. I read it years later and it was wonderful! There is no easy way around the learning process. The Hardy Boys are fun reading for a young person and I enjoyed many of those books.

Good Luck!

Let your 11 year old read the book, that way he can learn all about the book. When his teacher ask him about the book he can answer with out wondering what she is talking about. Your the parent let your child know that in life there is no easy way out of doing there home work other than actually doing it. This is only the beginning to many more book reports to come. Remember high school and colledge.

Here are the links to "Study Guides".

These links will give you a summary of the book, character analysis, plot and much more, so that you will be able to answer literary questions.
