For those of you that don't know..Martin Luther King jr. won a Nobel Peace Prize, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Congressional Gold Medal and has an entire day named after him..(those kind of things are not generally given out to just anybody.) He was a political activist, the most famous leader of the American Civil Rights Movement and a Baptist Minister...those are some major accomplishments for just one man to make.

Racism still exists for much the same reasons that other types of discrimination do based on gender, age, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, moral or political views. A preference for one's own ethnic group, fear of difference, a belief that particular races are more 'evolved', and fear that your particular race might at some point become extinct are all good examples of the reasons that some people are racist.

The thing that makes racism so ridiculous is that race is nothing more than a social and historical construction and has no real basis in science.

Martin Luther King didn't end racism, he was a viticm of it.

He said: "It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important."

"Do you see a JFK street in every town?"

Think he's got one of those big airyplane things. Not like he was a saint anyhow - being involved with assassinations plots, gangsters (although everyone important was back then), and so forth.

NY article about a book on JFK:

' ''The Dark Side of Camelot'' is mostly stuff you wouldn't want your kids to know. It contains a great deal of information about Kennedy's sexual life; his relations with the mob, especially Sam Giancana; and what appears to have been a ready acceptance of the use of personal violence -- assassination -- against foreign opponents, most famously Fidel Castro. I think the media is responsible for dividing people. We have someone in our family that tell us not to trust other people outside their race, so naturally we take this attitude with us when we are going to our jobs, at school, and hanging out with our friends who are the same nationality as you.

Because people like to hate. First they hate someone who doesn't look like them, or doesn't speak the same language. Then out of all the people like them, they'll find someone who is a little different - and hate that guy...Then if there is nothing different - they'd still hate somebody - just because it feels good.
Human nature is not a peaceful one.

cause its people like Chris Rock's Mom who says she was discriminated against at a Cracker Barrell cause she wasnt served in a proper amount of time, rather than just thinking it was poor service, I am a white guy, and I went into IHOP and didn't get served with all black servers and black customers, and sat there for 10 mins with no service and finally walked out. How funny would it be if you saw a white guy claiming discrimation on Larry King, until black people quit crying discrimination for something so stupid, we will never see one color in our USA

because no matter how hard we try , parents who were taught by their parents will teach this stuff to their poor kids. we can't change the why a child is brought up, making it impossible to get rid of racism completely.
