I have been working on trying to optimize my page rank on some of my sites. I notice that none of my internal links get credited as backward links on Google. However, other sites I notice that almost all of their links are internal links.

For example if you look at http://beginnersinvest.about.com/cs/investinglessons/l/blgrossmargin.htm and you check the packward links on Google all of them appear to be links from themselves.

Any idea how they do this and does this actually help the page rank?

One thing to remember when looking at backlinks at Google -- Google is not the best tool for this as they do not show everything, just those with PR4 pages and above. If your internal links do not have a high PR, then it will not show.

A better tool to use is Yahoo Site Explorer https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com which provides a more comprehensive backlinks information to websites

Make your pages easy to find. Provide an HTML sitemap that contains links to pages deeper in the site. On your home page, include links to the major sections inside the site. If your site includes many pages, consider creating a browsable set of links that enables the visitor to choose a category, then see links within that category.

No under no circumstances seek engine will under no circumstances trap or learn the inner hyperlink pages. Search engine bots often decide upon outbound hyperlink or nice hyperlinks which influence the web page rank in SEO.

Don't forget also, that Google will tell you that they do not show all the backlinks your pages may have. You may (probably are) getting credit and not able to see what is happening.
