A trouser sock is for wearing "socks" with flats and pants. (I never got the whole idea, but ?) Basically a thin often patterned/ textured sock. Knee Highs are stockings for your feet, ankles and calves - they end just below the knees and have an elastic/strechy top to secure them. These are good if you live in a hot climate /work for a company with a strict dress code (females must wear stockings with all outfits, even pants) or if you can't/don't like to go with out some sort of separation between your foot and your shoe.

Trouser socks are a thicker knee-high hose and worn with dress shoes.
Knee-highs are made of the same material as pantie hoses they just go to the knee.
Knee high socks are like regular socks they just go all the way to the knee.

Trouser socks tend to have a thicker fabric than knee highs. They also look better with a pantssuit

A trouser sock is a sock, while a knee high is basically panty hose, only it only goes up knee high.
