if negative a equals 14 then you need to take the reverse case to be also true

multiply both sides by -1 and you will find that -a becomes positive and that 14 becomes negative

hence your answer is a = -14

if negative a equals 14, than positive a equals negative fourteen

Basically, you can multiply the -a by -1 and the 14 by -1

-a * -1 = 14 * -1

a = 14

a= -14
a can't be negative so multiply both sides by -1 and you'll get your answer
ex.
-a=14
(-1)(-a)=14(-1)
a=-14
