HMT closed in April of 2001, after having merged with Komag in 2000.
"HMT Technology, which made hard-disk drives at its Eugene facility and employed nearly 1,000 people at its height, closed last spring." http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=oregon13&date=20020113
"2000: Komag and HMT Technology Corporation successfully merged. Komag and its primary independent competitor HMT merged to form the world's largest independent thin-film disk company. Benefits from the merger included: increased efficiencies by consolidating all production in Malaysia, depth of management, expansion of customer base, and stronger R&D and manufacturing capabilities."
"2001: Komag successfully moved all of its U.S. manufacturing to Malaysia. In April 2001, Komag ceased manufacturing at its facilities located in Fremont and Santa Rosa, California and Eugene, Oregon. These closures were ahead of schedule, accelerating the timing of expected cost savings."
