Actually it is an antihistamine - doxylamine. The alcohol has a synergistic effect with the antihistamine.

It used to be almost 40% alcohol. Now it's much, much less - but the antihistamines in it help bring the sleep on too.

It's the antihistamine. There's not NEARLY enough alcohol in a dose to affect you, although it can potentiate the effect of the antihistamine.

Look & see if 'diphenhydramine' is in the ingredients. I don't have a bottle, or I would do it for you. That is benadryl and is often used as a sleeping aid for the elderly. It is an anti-histamine.

I would go with jfb's answer. They advise you not to drink alcohol with most meds. And here they are giving you alcohol with the antihistamine.
