so, if a person kills a pregnant woman, they are charged with two murders, mother and unborn child. and yet abortion is ok? both times, a child is murdered, but it's ok if the child is "unwanted"? does anyone else think that this logic is flawed? i know people will say that you should be able to abort a child concieved through rape, but why punish the child for someone else's crime? how about adoption?

I think it is incredibly ridiculous, that a mother can abort her unborn child without penalty, but someone who kills a pregnant woman gets two charges of murder. I think that if a person knowingly aborts a child, they should be held accountable for that life. The only instance of this not standing, is if the woman's health is in danger and death is possible. If they don't want the child, there is adoption and some states have the safe haven law.

The laws on this are all over the place-- it varies from conception to even after 7 weeks. Most all exclude abortion and these came about because of public outcry, conservatives view on when life begins, etc.
There is a difference-- if somebody tries to kill the mother and/or the child (or even does so thru negligence), it is NOT the choice of the woman to get rid of the fetus.

I've seen this exact question before. It has to do with timing. If the fetus is old enough to live outside the womb, then it is considered to be a second murder. This is similar to the fact you can't get an abortion if the fetus has developed to that state, unless there is a threat to the mother. Both cases consider the fetus to be an independent person when it is old enough that it could survive independently.

Being a liberal Democrat this has always presented a quandry to me. I am pro-life and I find it amazing that the pro-choice people think one of these cases is murder and the other is okay. But then again I am equally baffeled by the anti-abortion group that thinks it's okay for the death penalty, or killing of innocents in places like Iraq. They are not pro-life, only anti-abortion. Very hypocritical, very anti-Christain, very Republican.

There is no logic. A baby is a baby. A fetus is a fetus. There's a reason they're spelled differently.
A legitimate law is based on fact and reason, not political advantage or pandering to a specific philosophy.

yeah, i agree with you, in any case killing/ aborting there is still a death or loss of life. my point is that a baby doesn't ask to be born, but people ask to have sex, so if you are woman or man enough to spread your legs, then you need to be woman/man enough to take care of a baby you make.

Its your body, its your choice. If you can live with your decision, than so be it.
