Any ideas when I can buy a nice, good quality sofa? Apart from sofa workshop.... Are there any other shops that sell nice sofas?

Did you all know that 78% of DFS operating budget goes into advertising.

That leaves 22% for the shops, salaries, hp finance agreements, oh, and the cost of your sofa.

i.e. if you buy from dfs the sofa costs about £25 to make

You would be surprised of the good condition that many of the sofas in Good Will, Habitat for Humanity Resell stores and the like have. In many cases you can get something nice for less than $100.

Also check out the consignment shops in your area. It may cost a little more but the condition will be better.

Another thing that you might do is check out Craigs List.. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/
Go on the site, pick your state then your town (or the one nearest to you) then look under For Sale. Check out Furniture and the Free Sections. Actually, check out any section that might have a couch on it... Tag sales, Household, etc.

Don't go for any phoney half price sales from furniture warehouses.
Get a local furniture shop to give you their best price.
