I don't agree with the premise of your question, therefore I can't really answer it. You should add the word "some" before the words "open-minded". I know a lot of open-mined liberals that aren't closed-minded to opinions they disagree with. This would be like asking the question," Why are conservatives against science and want to take us back to the Dark Ages?" It's just not worded right to get a thoughtful, proper response.

Not all liberals are open minded. Some of them think they are always right. This is more of a personality trait than a political philosophy. You see this on both sides. However, disagreeing with an opinion after considering it's merits and the facts of the matter is not being close minded -- that's called rational thinking.

Open-minded means that you take all opinions and facts into consideration when making up your own mind on a subject. So is a person close minded just because they decide to disagree with your opinion...?
By the way I am a conservative.

I can only speak for myself, and my own experiences, but I admit that I have been more than likely closed minded to people who repeat word for word, the arguments for or against an issue that come from radio, network, or cable "news" commentators.
I believe all Americans should form their own opinions, and not rely on any left, or right, media star to do the talking and thinking for them. When any two people disagree, and one asks the other, "why?", the answer should include the words "I think", not, "well that's what I heard on so-'n-so's show, so it's got to be true".
Living by Michael Moore's words only, is just as irritating as living by only Rush Limbaugh's.

Disagreeing with another persons opinion does not make one closed minded.

You are confusing open-mindedness with agreement. One can be open to other opinions and still disagree with them. That is usually grounds for a debate. Questions like yours, which label, stereotype, and clearly are for the intention of making fun, are grounds for an argument.

i've got stumbled on that folk who describe themselves as deeply in desire of the two section tend to be fairly closed-minded. comparable is going for anybody who continuously votes a at present occasion fee ticket. i locate that the main open-minded people i be attentive to comprise commonly the two agnostic (not atheist) or of greater "liberal/reasonable" leanings in religious perception. This modifications counting on one's region, i've got observed. In Oklahoma, the "liberals" are so a lot greater reasonable than the "liberals" in California. So, there are assorted hypocritical left-wing followers who're painful to take heed to, yet there is no scarcity of completely likable varieties who'd get alongside only superb in a appropriate-wing ecosystem, yet drives off on the tip of the day in his F-one hundred fifty with an Obama bumper sticky label on it.

I'm infinitely open minded, but that doesn't mean I will agree. Give me a reasonable argument, and I'll come back with something I believe in. If I can't... you win.

The funny thing is, that this is a proven psychological principal, as some will surely give you the definition of a liberal, and one of them will be "open minded", acting as if that means they truly are open minded.
I have always wondered the same
