Maybe they don't have to pay speeding tickets in the US so they feel comfortable going 80mph on a 60mph zone. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

I just wish I could convince them to drive faster than 35 in our local 45 zones. The snowbirds (as they are called in the south where they escape during winter for the frozen months) clog the roadways here and every other beach town I know of.

Don't know about the Canadians ... but those who live and drive in the northern states (near the Canadian border) have to contend with snow and ice, and should all probably drive a bit slower.

However, with proper driver training, 80 should be a relatively safe speed. Our interstates (not local freeways) were designed for such velocities.

here in michigan the canadians go under the speed limit. be thankful that they are going fast. i drive a freeway daily that has a lot of canadian traffic on it and it sucks being in the ramp lane. it seems here they don't know where the acclerator is.

I don't know about that, but I have noticed women feel free to go whistling past me doing 100 in a 70, never look when changing lanes and do not believe in turn signals.

it's just that we so rarely get to drive on ice free roads or keep our eyes peeled for moose that we just let 'er rip. seriously 'though, everybody up here speeds, even the police, and it kinda becomes a habit , sorry 'bout that .
