What's up with all these advertisements for websites? I thought they were against the rules.

Thanks Sister Bear, but orange and pink don't really go together.

They are against the rules! People should report them so they get yanked. But sadly, there will always be more spamming ******* than those of us who can report on them can keep up with!

Part of the problem is that the questions being asked sometimes require some kind of validation in order to give it weight. If I'm answering an SEO question how do you know if what I'm saying is any good unless I can also point to page 1 results in Google with 56,000,000 results? I virtually have to be able to point to my web site to prove my validation.

So it's a fine line between personal promotion and valid authentication. I offered free information about a big mistake Affiliates make and the question got taken down by Y/A. It wasn't an attempt on my part to make any money, it really is a free report but got reported for abuse.

Looking around today I can see multiple advertisements that will eventually be removed but in the meantime some people will just claim points for giving an answer.

But the basic problem will remain. How do you validate the answers without allowing us to point to our sources? It's going to be a website .....

I own a website that has free listings, much like craigslist. I had to spend the better part of my weekend cleaning up the mess that people spam it with. To make it worse, most of their advertisements aren't even in readable English.

They are, but the staff can't jump on all of them.

If you see one, just report it and someone will take care of it. (It seems to me that there are remarkably few)

Reporting abuse does help, so use it when you see ads.
