Okay, so I don't want to seem like the mom that freaks out about every little thing, but ever since my son was born (he is almost four months), he had this weird breathing noise that he made. I dismissed it after the doctor told me that the thing in the back of baby's throats are a little large and make a weird noise.

I kept thinking this was the reason. I also blamed a stuffy nose even though the booger sucker (for lack of a better term) and the nose saline drops did nothing for it. Lately, my babysitter pointed out how deep his chest goes when he is breathing. I figured it was because he is a chubby boy and it just looks like it is deep because his chest is further down than his tummy anyways.

Then today when I went to see him during my lunch break, I put my ear up to his chest and I could hear how congested it was. I dont want to freak out of something that isnt a big deal, but adding that with the weird snorting noises when he breaths and the sinking in his chest, I am a lit

tle concerned.

The babysitter said that neither of her two childrens chest sank that low when the breathed, and that it was worse when he cried, or even laughed.

My question to all of you is this, did you babies make a weird noise when breathing? did their chest sink in at all? Could you hear the breathing when you put your ear to their chest (if you did that)?

I was thinking about taking him the childrens hospital about 40 minutes away, but I didnt want to go if it was nothing. And I dont want to go back to my doctor because I really dislike that place and have been looking for another.

Mothers are often a better judge of when something is wrong with their child than a Dr who hurries you through a visit and only sees the child for 10 minutes at a time.

Bottom line is that you are better to sound like a paranoid mother and go and get your child checked than to not go and find out something is wrong.

I would be wondering if perhaps he might have asthma - this would fit the symptoms you have described and I would most certainly get him checked - change doctors.

Normal breathing should not make noises, they are nice and even, chest has very even up motions, just like adults. Do you hear high pitch noise, if so, that is asthma, which also makes chest sinking in, or stomach pulling in. If this has been happening everyday, you really should take him to a doctor. Any congestions from flu/colde should go away on its own, but you want to rule out asthma.

If you are concerned take him in. It is better to be safe then sorry. When I was pregnant I went to 3 different doctors for this pain in my stomach and I was vomitting. All of them said it was just "acid indigestion" The last time it happened I went into the ER...again. The doctor there finally did some blood work and found out my liver enzymes were elevated and my blood platelets were extremely low. I was airlifted to a different hospital and delivered my son 8 weeks early because I had preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. We both could have died.

Point being...if you feel something isn't normal...keep going in or taking him in until you get results. You know and your motherly instincts are telling you something isn't right. Good luck and I hope you find out what you need to...or at least get peace of mind.

I just wanted to let you know my son is also 4 months old and he does the exact same thing, but the doctor just told me he has asthma. So I'd get him checked for asthma. When my son cried or laughed he had a hard time breathing and it always sounded like he was congested or had stuff sizzling around in his noise dailiy. Now its cleared up. Hope that helps!

I worried about a lump on my son's head ,turned out to be genetic ,his father had it too.LOL..,so I know what you mean .look if he is breathing and growing and is not in pain or struggling for air,I would not go to the hospital ,save that for an emergency but get your self a new doctor soon and take him .Or do you have infant health nurses? we do and they seem to know more about baby's than the doctors.I think you will be told that his air ways are small and so sound different to adults but do get it checked.

My advice to you is, when in doubt, get a medical opinion.
My daughter used to sound congested at night, and we were told by the health visitor to put a bowl of water in the room near the heater because the heating system we had was drying the air out.
But I never noticed her breathing that deeply.
It does sound to me like you need to go to the hospital if only to put your mind at rest.

Good luck!

Unless he seems to actually have trouble breathing I don't know that I would rush off to the hospital, but I would find a new pediatrician ASAP and get him in for an exam.

You need to take him asap... He could have pneumonia, or asthma, My son was hospitalized when he was 3 months for the same condition and he had rsv which is VErRY serious could be fatal.. You described what he had so please take him...

If you catch it now your better off, if rsv he will be put on a ventlator to help him breathe and be giving meds to open his chest lungs etc...

I'd get a second opinion from a doctor. There are alot of possiblities of what it could be, so me guessing would be useless. Take him to the doctor and have them look at him again.

I have 4 children and none of them have ever had these symptoms. I would suggest taking your baby to a specialist.
