My cousin and I are both gay and in our late 20s. We grew up together and are very close best friends. We've had sexual relations on numerous occasions and have developed a sort of "cousins with benefits" relationship. No one knows about us and I was wondering if it's an alright relationship to have. I have many gay friends and on occasion few of them have hooked up with their gay relatives.

This is a tough question but the scenario is not unheard of. Usually, the taboo that comes with sexual relations between close blood relatives is reserved to heterosexual couples because of the possibility of birth defects. The biological problem eventually trickled down into religious and cultural values.

For a homosexual couple, it's not so clear. If you really think hard about it, morality is not absolute. There are many shades of gray. I would say you have to look within yourself and ask yourself if you feel guilty about your actions.

If having sex with your cousin causes harm to your other relationships or causes some emotional problems, it's a sign that this activity is unhealthy. Otherwise, if it doesn't hurt anyone, it shouldn't be a problem.

I think the biggest issue with this is: how close are you to him in a family context? One of the biggest reasons for a cross-cultural incest taboo is the disharmony such relations can bring into a family. With a 1st cousin, in US society...that doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

I have over 50 cousins; counted 'em once. Needless to say, I don't see ANY of them a heck of a lot, and there's some I literally never see. That wouldn't be an issue for me, because there's no family-relationship to be harmed by the sexual relationship. And there's no forced awkwardness if anything ends up going weird. From the sounds of it though, you were very close growing up, and I think that's worth considering.

Most of the reasons behind the taboos against sex in the family don't apply (tho oddly, where I live it is legal to marry a first cousin...) but it's still asking for a second helping of social criticism on top of what you get for being gay.

So IMO, if you're just 'friends with benefits' you probably shouldn't risk that extra bit of stress. But if there's more to the relationship, then take the chance... just be aware of how people are going to react.

No, it is not a good idea to continue such a sexual relationship. You don't have sex with your relatives, period -- whether you be gay, straight, or bisexual. You are asking for trouble -- either from your other relatives if they should find out -- or the possibility that you will regret what you have done sometime in the future. Incest is wrong, period.

It does not matter if you're gay or straight...having sex with your relatives can lead to unintended emotional trauma later on.
I strongly urge you both to consider the emotional ramifications of what you're doing before you run into trouble. Just my 2 cents' worth.

Morally I would have to say no....imagine if your family found out....since you are both men there really isn't a chance of pregnancy...that is a plus...at least it is a cousin and not a brother....I dunno....I wouldn't be freaked out by it....but it is slightly weird and a moral no no

Good luck with this one!

seriously weird, but 1st cousin relationships are only illegal because of potential issues with reproduction...i don't think that is an issue in your case so i say whatever floats your boat.

btw, sex between 1st cousins is considered incest and illegal in many US states, better check the laws where you live.

I think I'd have to go with the "canned" answer on this one. . .. not w/ your cousin, dude!
If it's first cousin, definitely not.
2nd or 3rd, maybe so!

How do YOU feel about what you're doing? If you can live with the fact you're being incestuous, it's all good.
