Mrs. Smith wants to fence in her garden. The rectangular plot is 11 yards wide and 19 yards long. She plans to use the 8 yards of fencing left over from last year. How much more fencing does she need to buy?

She needs 11 yards + 11 yards + 19 yards + 19 yards = 60 yards. She already has 8 yards so she needs 52 more.

Add 19 + 19 + 11+11 equals 60 yards. Take away 8 yards leaving 52

The total amount of fencing she needs is the perimeter in other words the width multiplied by two plus the length multiplied by two. When you get the perimeter you subtract the 8 yards left over from last year and you have the answer. She needs to buy 52 more yards.

11+11+19+19 = 60 <---which is much she will use and since she has 8 yards from last year, you subtract 60-8 which will give you 52 yards

i think you make a right triangle out of 19 and 11, and then the third side will be x-8
