Seeing as the British Govt was asked to support the war on terrorism, and came to thier aid without question, reservation, or hesitation, isn't it sad that USA did not come to the aid of Britain when dealing with the N.I. problem during 1969 - 1998?

The USA did come to the aid of Britain kind of. Many Irish- Americans gave money to the IRA. Oh and US Senator George Mitchell negotiated the terms that would eventually end the terrorism in N. Ireland, it's just too bad he didn't come along a lot sooner.

The Northern Ireland situation was between Great Britain and Ireland - it had nothing to do with the United States. If they had have interfered, I, as a British person would have felt it patronizing and unnecessary.

The fact is that the UK and Ireland needed to settle it themselves in order to sort it out, and the the US government did their bit by doing all they could to stop money to fund the IRA coming over here.

The war on terrorism is a global war which threatens the way of life of millions of people, including British and US citizens, therefore it is only right that we work together to stop the threat .

However, there needs to be a proper way of doing this - invading two sovereign countries and attempting to infringe the civil liberties established over many hundreds may not be the best way - so, we must elect our leaders with working together properly in mind.

I don't think the British asked for our help, other than to cut off funding for the IRA that was coming from Boston, which the USA tried to do, with some success.

When did they ask for troops? They asked the US FBI to stop the flow of arms money and it was severely slowed down. There were quite a few prosecutions here on people raising funds for the IRA.

But you knew that. Right?
