It seems we're doing quite a good job of stopping the ozone layer, Unfortunately, we that's a problem. Science has a way to stop that a well, it's just that people want to keep raping the environment. As for stopping Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Tsunami's and the like, it does't look like God is listening to the believers on that one, so we're sort of on our own to try to find a way to deal with it. Science is currently working on predictive technologies to determine when these events shall occur, and hopefully give some sort of warning to evacuate danger areas. As far as preventing or stopping these disasters, we're working on understanding them. Preventing earthquakes will likely be impossible as they are a function of the tectonic plates moving about, and there would not be any likely way to fix them in place. As with Tsunami, they are also a result of earthquakes, so those too will likely remain as an event that must simply be endured. When God can do a better job of stopping these things, then, prehaps I'll question my position on my own religious beliefs. At present though, it seems that if he's responsible, then he's also killing believers and unbelievers alike. Not sure what that means exactly, but it doesn't show me that christianity is the only way.

Here is my opinion.

short version:
Don't mess with Mother Nature, but clean up your own mess.

longer version:

I not sure it would be a good idea to try to prevent, Earthquake, Hurricane, ... and other natural disasters. Although there maybe considerable damage and loss of life, who knows what the long term affect might be of not having this events.

On the other hand, damage to the environment caused by the use of technology created by scientist or that may be the result of industrial development should be addressed.

First of all, scientists are not powerful, so get that out of your head.

Second, due to man's ignorance, global warning is making everything worse. The ozone's depletion causes hurricanes to become more frequent and stronger. Earthquakes are happening often alond with tsunamis. Frequent tornadoes. There are extreme temperatures during the summer and winter, and heavy flooding due to rain. People are dropping like flies in this world due to some diseases and viruses that have popped out of nowhere. All because we are not doing enought to try not to abuse everything that we have gotten in this world.

ok to stop an earthquake you'd have to have a cushion the size of mount everest and put it in that exact spot except no one really knows when or where earth quakes happen. Hurricanes are just a force of mother nature, Tsunamis are just one giant earthquake expect in the water and the ozone is healing itself

Dear friend,We can predict the disasters to some extend. I have issued the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our coast. to the local T.V.Stations.They have ignored my warning. It took 22 months for them to accept that I have issued the warning. Even after this matter was confirmed our Government has not yet come to me to understand the fact how it was possible for me to issue the warning. Even today higher police officials visited me to conduct inquiry. But no result. Understanding how it was possible for me to issue the warning will help to minimize the death at least in future. They speak nicely to the public act irresponsibly.

Okay, mixreaction needs a name change, say, mixdistraction. Anyone who equates scientists with gods doesn't understand science. No scientist is omnipotent, except for mad scientists, and then only in their own brains. I will not let someone get away with this misdistinction without my correction.

Yeah, they aren't powerful like that. They are however doing studies and all that good stuff to try and prevent and/or at least make damage minimum when time does come for a natural disaster. But in the end Mother Nature will get her way one way or the other.

Even if the technology were available (which, particularly in the case of earthquakes, it isn't), the energy requirements would be excessive. There are, and always will be, things that science cannot do; what it does best is to provide understanding of how things work so that they can be made to work in new and useful ways.

these are all natural things we cannot stop them but we can help prevent....like ozone u can carpool, walk, ride your bike, but for the most part these things are mother nature and the scientist are NOT SO powerful they are smart and study the pattern of things...they can tell u the likiness of when the next disaster will be

They do, and have been moderatly sucessful at it.

Scientests can now pretty effectivly predict disaster, its getting people to wake up that's the problem.

There are no efficent methods of communication and evacuation for natrual disasters and no government support for preventing long term disasters (Ozone, global warming)
