Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are either internal or External devices that stores the Computer OS and your information. HDD's can be EIDE, SCSI or SATA.

A thumb drive is as the name applies. It is a drive that is no bigger than a thumb that uses the USB port. This way you can carry your computer with you and plug the thumb drive to any computer that has an USB port. Thumb drives can by up to 2 GB (there may be bigger, but I have researched the sizes recently) and don't have a disk in them. It works more like a memory chip.

Using a Thumb drive is like using a Floppy Disk, except you have many more times the space to store information than a Floppy can hold.

The hard drive is also called your C drive. It is the memory that is already built into your computer. This is where you operating system and programs are stored.

A thumb drive is a removable drive (like a disk) only much more memory and a lot more reliable. You can buy a 1GB for less then $50 now. They are also called memory sticks. You just plug them into your USB port on your computer.

You can go to this link and find a lot of them:

A hard drive is actually part of the computer while a thumb drive (also known as a jump drive) is portable and is put into a computer (like a floppy or c.d.). Hope that helps.

a thumb drive is a small two-inch stick you connect to the USB port (and the PC sees it as another hard drive). .

but the main hard drive on your PC is a disk that spins around like a record player and has your operating system on it. . and your computer boots up Windows from it, and saves everything to it when you save something (unless you tell it to save it somewhere else).

A thumb drive (a.k.a. flash drive, usb drive) is like a mini-hardrive. Except it uses flash memory instead of a disk.
