is it hormones or the number of males and females in the family or what decides the sex of a baby?

A woman has only X chromosomes(in the egg), and a man has X and Y chromosomes (in the sperm) Which ever sperm makes it first to the egg decides the sex of the baby. XX=Female XY=Male There are old says like if a male drinks a lot of coffee before having sex he will produce more X chromosome sperms. Also they say male produce X chromosome sperms earlier in life, and more Y chromosome sperms later in life. I have found this not to be true!

A female has XX sex chromosomes and a male has XY.
All eggs carry a single X chromosome and the sperm can be either X or Y.
If a Y sperm fertilises the egg the child will be male, if an X sperm fertilises the egg the child will be female.
So its the male's sperm that decides the sex every time, we women have no say in it lol

The sex of the baby is determined by a single chromosome, donated by the father. Sex chromosomes come in two varieties: X and Y. Women have two X chromosome and thus can only contribute an X chromosome to their offspring. Men have one X and one Y. Half of their sperm contain an X chromosome, which would produce a girl and the other half contain a Y chromosome which would result in a boy.

The man carries the chromosome that decides the sex of the baby. The woman only carries the xx which is female. The male carries both xx and xy. xy is male.

The first sperm to get to the egg determines the chromosomal gender.

However, there is the issue of hormonal conditions like testicular feminization syndrome. Genetically, the child is XY(Male), but the testosterone receptors on the genitals is faulty. Despite testosterone stimulation, the organs do not differentiate into male sexual organs. These children grow up to look like females, but they have no ovaries or uterus. Just immature testes.

the only factor is the guy who fathers the youngster. adult men have an XY gene and woman have an XX gene. The sperm from the male is the two going to be an x or a y, so as which will verify the intercourse of the toddler. That different crap is previous better halves thoughts.

The chromosomes - men have an X and a Y and women have an X and an X. The male "decides". Guess they had to take credit for something. :-)

The male sperm decides it. Their are female and male sperm and which ever makes it to the egg first is what it is. X is girl and Y is boy chromosomes. THe womans egg has the X and the man has X sperm and Y sperm.

If the man's sperm cell unites with an egg and has an X chromosome then it will be a girl. If a man's sperm cell has a Y it will be a boy. A mother's egg only has X chromosomes. The man's sperm has both.
