I have just asked the cost of a taxi, which was answered but a travel rep said it was dangerous to use the taxis! We could have paid the holiday co. for a pre booked taxi but it was £40 and its only about £5 - £7 any help?

Very safe, but determine the cost before you depart for your hotel. We hired a driver and found that to be cheaper than taxiing everywhere. It really depends on where you are staying and where you want to go. We were outside of the main part of the city, so it made sense to have a car.

Not safe, are you kidding? Listen, I go to Sharm at least twice a year, have been doing so for the past 10 years and I never had a problem. I have a feeling this rep is not being honest for some reason! maybe he wants to get a comission by getting u there using something else! I donno. Anyways, Sharm is very safe and so is taking a taxi. Your only problem with the taxi is getting a decent deal since the fare is not fixed.

A decent fair should be in the range of L.E 50-100, which should translate to 5-10 sterlings. Once u land negotiate a ride, I never faced a problem just remember to agree on the fare before u leave in order to avoid further negotiations later.

Another point worth mentioning is the almost all hotels provide free transportation to and from the airport via their buses. Contact your hotel directly via their web site and ask for transportation.

Enjoy Sharm

yes, it is very safe, Sharm is a touristic city, everybody living in Sharm depend on tourism and i went there several times and i know what i m talking about. it is now even safer than before (because of the last tragic incidents) because the police is everywhere in costume and undercover just to make the city safer!
i saw foreigners everyday taking taxis and going everywhere!Don't listen to the tour rep. he probably want the commission uncut.
by the way, thank you for the 10 points of your previous question. :-)

I found speaking to the hotel you are booked with VERY productive. It would seem that some of the hotels have their own little transfer service, and ours is a lot cheaper than a taxi and about the same price as the shuttle ... email your hotel direct ... they seem very friendly.
