1. how is it that the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon off the newfoundland coast have stayed in french hands?

2. and also what was the DEW line and why was it eventually abandoned?

3. why were washington D.C. and Ottawa Canada chosen for capital cities in their respective countries?

4. anyone know facts about the cuban revolution that brought fidel castro to political power in cuba?

5. and also reasons for the construction of the Panama Canal and what the current status of the canal is today?

if anybody knows really good sites that would answer these questions, or if anybody knows what the answers are that would really help me a lot. thank ya'll so much. anybody really interested in this kinda stuff would really help me out.
