No. Nextel & Sprint cell phones don't use SIM cards. Cingular & T-Mobile do.

Wrong! Nextel and Boost phones DO now use SIM cards. Although they are not the same as GSM cards used in Cingular and T-Mobile phones.

What I want to know is if I can put a Boost card into my old Nextel handset.

Right. Sprint is CMDA, as is, I believe, Boost/Nextel. There's a slight chance that you could beg someone at Sprint to allow you to use a Boost phone, but, odds are that you'll need to buy a new phone.
