***HELP***How to know if a *Chanel* purse is authentic?

I need help finding out if a Chanel purse that I bought at Ebay is authentic Chanel.The Seller described it at Authentic chanel...but i received it today and it came with the tag saying how its authentic and below it a number but it doesn't smell like leather at all, and I called a Chanel store to see if they could tell me if it is or not with the number, but they can't tell me if its authentic or not =(

It actually does matter to me cause the seller said it was an authentic Chanel purse...=/

~is the label, usually monogramed, heavily stitched and made to last, the stitching should be tight. the leather should be quite soft and patterns should match up.~

How much did u pay for it, real chanel cost a lot of money, if it wasn't a lot, then chances are it isn't real, nowadays, people can fake anything to look like the real thing, the number inside should help, but that can be fake also, look at the stitching of the threads, you can tell by that, look to see if its neat or not, but check a picture of the purse from the chanel website and compare it to yours. I hope this helps. as far as the leather smell, if u know what real leather smells like, then this purse isnt real. but what does ur gut tell u.
