Then you are not a very caring carer are you?

If you don't want to work Xmas and New Year, you are in the wrong job. Shift work and unsocial hours are a part of the job - if you can't or won't do it, change jobs and give yours to someone who genuinely wants to care for people. Don't even think about trying to fake an illness or injury - your boss will be suspicious whatever story you come up with, and you'll only get yourself a bad reputation at work. When the time comes for you to either leave or be sacked, your references will be rubbish. Employers aren't stupid - they've heard every excuse in the book for skivers. And when you really ARE ill, you will not be believed.

You should check this Sciatica Natural Treatment
http://cure-sciatica.info

Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

I think honesty is the best policy in this case. If you suddenly get sick over xmas an new year everyone is bound to be sus. If you've used all your holiday entitlement then just ask for some unpaid leave and say that you'll make up for it at a later date. You never know, they might say it's ok... You'll also feel better for being honest about it all.

Nobody will question a good old fashion bout of food poisoning, especially if phrases like 'crap through an eye of a needle' accompanied it!! However you can't really go back to work a week later half a stone heavier. Back ache is always a good one, maybe a touch of syatica- its common in people who are on their feet lots. Or you could just grin and bear it, this is my first christmas off for 3 years and I've still got to do new year. Unfortunately people still need care, even at christmas.

They will probably know you are lying! It is a bit coincidental to be sick after Christmas/New year. That' s not to say people do not get ill at that time of the year, but bosses usually never believe people when they are. Even if you were genuinely ill they will still believe you were making it up.

You're a carer? What about the people you care for? Book time off legitimately or get a new job, people have to work over the festive period, life is **** sometimes, get used to it!

If you are in the UK, you don't need to fake an injury. Just say that the person you care for is ill, and claim dependent's leave under the Working Time Directive.

Stress/depression of course. Then you can still go out and do all the things you want to do eg.. drink and be merry etc and it wouldn't matter if any work colleagues saw you as you would only be doing it to aid your recovery. Lol
(I know stress/depression isn't an injury - but it's a fab excuse and it should work for you!)

Don't tempt providence.

And your attitude is as old as yuletide. Everyone, and I mean everyone will know your game.

Try and give a little back at Christmas. Its a long standing tradition.
