Whenever and however people find a way of dividing into groups, they'll do it. Color of skin is quite obvious, so it makes a good divider. It's impossible to see the logic in it, but there it is.
In a community of Caucasians, if there are ten Oriental, or black families they will try to locate in one area close to each other. The whites see this as clannish and tend to cut them off from the general mingling. Each group feels more comfortable visiting with those more like themselves.
Even those who are completely non-prejudiced would feel a bit uncomfortable living in a community of a different racial group, if he was the only one of his race in a community of thousands of a different skin color.
That's human nature. Be honest, would you be comfortable in the above situation ?

Human perception and behavior is based around spotting differences and identifying/living within groups. This is a hold over behavior from primitive man (and animals) and was important for survival. We are naturally suspicious of things that are different. We also also quick to identify things as 'different' because it is mentally efficient (I know how act toward you because I have made a decision to like or dislike you).

So, in short, racism is a primitive behavior. (Not to justify it, it is just human nature).

It is true, education and exposure is one way to change the behavior. Eventually, we begin to include those people within our internal concept of our 'group' and overlook the differences.

absolutely correct it shouldn't matter but in the real world it does and anyone who doesn't see that is not living in the real world. even if you don't see colors others do and as a result your life is affected too whether you like it or not. the u.s. is not the most racist country in the world...all cultures and countries have their own racist beliefs..take mexico for example those from guadalajara dislike and look down on those from mexico city, most mexicans dislike blacks. different asia groups dislike others and so on. i'm not sure it a race thing but a superiority thing, some ppl think they are better than others and use the color as an excuse.

Because there are differences in races. They are physical differences and cultural differences.

Each race has it's own unique "markings". If we fail to notice these then we will lose them.

I'm not racist, I love all races. I love mine best, I am darned proud of being 100% Latin Descent. I strive to make my ethnicity a shining beacon for all others to admire and emulate.

People just fail to see past differences. Or they're not mature enough to form their own opinions and jump on the racist bandwagon.

Depends on what you are talking about. As far as being in love, I prefer my own race, becuase of the struggle that I endure, only a person in my shoes can truly understand.

I welcome a fine man of any race to change my mind.

I agree.

Although I tolerate all racaes I am proud of my race. I get insulted when people say that I am of another race, not because I'm racist, it is because I am proud of who I am.
