It's said that there are two things that should never be discussed in polite society: religion and politics.

However, I feel that we can have a mature discussion without slurring each other or "putting down" opposing political factions.

I am just curious about how everyone else feels about the upcoming presidential race in 2008. I don't care if you're a Dem or Rep. I'm not looking for a validation for my own beliefs. I honestly want to know what you think.

Who will be running in 2008 and why? What will be the hot-button issues of 2008? What qualities are you looking for in a president for 2008?

* Rants are not appreciated. In fact, I will FLAG any extremely rude and innappropriate rants.

The democrats will have either Hillary or Obama running and the Republicans will have somebody more middle of the road than the current president, somebody like McCain or Warner (he already said he isnt running). If either party has a somewhat polarized person up for election they will most likely lose.

That's really a tough call. I think a lot of it will depend on (1) How the upcoming election ends up, and (2) Which candidates we have to choose from. For example, let's say the Democrats regain control of the House and Senate -- if things get better over the next couple of years, chances are the next President will be a Democrat, and the opposite could happen if things don't go well over the next couple of years. Here's another example: Let's say Condi Rice changed her mind and decided to run for President -- VERY good chance she would get elected. On the flipside of that, if Hillary decided to run in 2008 there's a VERY good chance that she would NOT get elected. Recent polls of registered Democrat voters indicate that over half would NOT vote for Hillary in 2008, and we know there's no way on God's green Earth that the Republicans would vote for her, so...

I honestly think it's too early to tell.

Hopefully John McCain, and if Hillary is running, I think the Arizona Senator should take a woman as his running mate. There are many qualified Republican women out there. Obama needs more experience. If nominated, I believe he will lose. Actually Harold Ford is a more centrist candidate if he can win the Tennessee race for the Senate.

STATUS QUO NO MATTER WHO WINS. THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM AND THE ELECTORAL VOTE SYSTEM HAVE TO CHANGE. PEOPLE HAVE A TENDENCY TO VOTE THE PARTY NOT THE INDIVIDUAL. HOW IS IT THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE THAT YOUR VOTE WON'T COUNT IF YOU VOTE IN THE MINORITY. THE ELECTORAL PROCESS MAY CAUSE THE POPULAR CANDIDATE WITH THE MOST VOTE TO LOSS THE ELECTION. THAT MAKES ME WONDER HOW MANY ELECTIONS ARE FIXED. IT'S TIME FOR ELECTION REFORM AND WE NEED MORE THAN TWO PARTIES TO CHOOSE FROM.

You know, it is too soon to tell. If it was now, I'd say the Democrats, because people are very irritated with Bush, but who knows how things will be in two years.

I think Hillary will win simply because she's the most focused (on herself).
