Don't know about any Illinois-specific laws, but there is the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) which applies to most employers across the country. It gives you up to 12 weeks of (usually unpaid) leave to care for a newborn or adopted baby per calendar year.
Your company must continue your health benefits during your 12 weeks off.
Employers with 50 or more workers are covered by the law. For you to be eligible for FMLA, you need to
(1) have been employed by this employer for at least 12 months, and
(2) worked for at least 1,250 hours of service during the
12-month period immediately preceding the commencement of the leave, and
(3) be employed at a worksite where 50 or more employees are employed by the employer within 75 miles of that worksite.
Time taken off work due to pregnancy complications can be counted against the 12 weeks of family and medical leave.

It looks like the Federal law is based on the Illinois law. The first answerer provided some great information.
Here is a link for the specific law in Illinois, http://blog.laborlawtalk.com/2006/10/21/illinois-fmla-family-medical-leave-acts-laws/
I tried to go to your state's website and find this, but their search engine is virtually worthless, sorry.
