SD will have both starting OLB's back in 4 weeks (next week, Phillips, 4 weeks Merriman), by playoff time, they will be at full strength, and there isn't a team in the AFC that they can't beat. The Giants are alot like SD on offense, and they have improved their pass rush of late (though they have played a couple of weak teams in a row). This would be a good matchup. If it happens, I would put my money on the Chargers. Rivers is playing quite a bit better than Manning this year, and between Tomlinson and Barber I would take Tomlinson every time. The O-line edge I would give to the Giants. On defense, the Chargers are susceptible to the long pass, but only recently since they are missing Phillips and Olshansky (they will be back soon), when they are healthy, the Chargers D is as good as any in the league. The Giants defense has been pretty good against the run, but against the pass they've been weak. And as far as intangibles go, the Chargers went to N.Y. and beat this same Giants team 45-23 last year, they always destroy Manning led teams (they ruined the Colts perfect season in Indy last year too.).

Bears are going to clinch home field advantage easily with that schedule, so if you believe the Giants can go in there in the cold and snow and win, more power to you. If they do, it'll be on the back of their monster RB tandem, Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs but the Bears are hardly soft against the run.
As for the Chargers, they were victims of the schedule and missed opportunities last season. The division remains tremendously tough and they're going through linebackers like pez. But if they can be there and healthy defensively, the Colts should be very concerned. But there's so much competition, its really hard to call it now. Broncos, the resurgent Ravens, and even the Patriots are all prominent possibilities. And the 6th team likely won't be a slouch either. Chargers are probably the best of the bunch right now, but hardly a lock.

San Diego is a very good possibility from the AFC and I can see why you would pick them, except there D is going to be down all three linebackers once Merriman is suspended, but with L.T. playing like he is maybe they'll just outscore everyone. As far as the Giants go I just think if they meet up with the Bears in the playoffs that the Bears D will give Eli fits and he just won't be able to deal with them.

Giants have a better shot than San Diego. Too many good teams in the AFC. Giants should be able to beat the Bears with no problem.

Not sure those two are even in the conference championships. I'm thinking Denver and Indy for the AFC and Chicago and Atlanta for the NFC.
