U.S.A Bashing is a favourite sport these days.
But just imagine if any of the nations whose supporters do most of the bashing were in the same position of being the most powerful nation.
Can you imagine, for instance, if the present day Iran was the most powerful nation on earth instead of America? I think the world would be very sorry that they had not appreciated the U.S.
Be proud of America, we could do a great deal worse.
P.S. I am not American.

I have not seen this movie, yet for what its worth, here are my thoughts on your question:

I believe that many of these movies and books are created by people who want to believe (or want to make YOU believe) something because it benefits them is some form. Wether the belief is true or not, they put together a collection of points (and omit points which counter their point) which when pieced together the right way seem to support the idea they are trying to convey.

My opinion of the USA is that while it is by no means perfect, there is no better place. We all know that perfection doesn't ever happen in reality. There are things I don't like about the US, but guess what, it is possible that I can do something to help fix those things. Or, at the very least, I have the right to (in a peaceful manner) make others aware of these problems without the fear of being persecuted.

There are always two sides to a story and many times the truth falls somewhere in between. Don't believe something just because someone tells you. Do your own research, look at both sides, and go with your own gut feeling.

1. Haven't seen it.

2. Opinion: As with nearly every Country in the World, down at the bottom, 99.999999% of people want to get on with everybody else in the World and have a happy an peaceful life

The trouble is with the other 0.0000001% - these are our so called political leaders whose only interest is in maintaining their own political position.

3. 99.9999% of Americans don't get out of their own Country enough. They have absolutely no idea of how the rest of the world see them and cannot perceive why so many people seem to hate them (especially the Arab world).

I love Americans and America, but America seems so naive about the world in general.

You make an interesting statement about being 'proud'. It would probably create a very interesting discussion if you were prepared to bullet point exactly what makes you proud?

I love the US, or at least the ideas and ideals of the US. As a group of people, we mean well but don't always do the right thing. That's natural; we're only human. However, what I love about this country is that what we all really want to be is built into our framework. We have the civil rights movements and the workers movements and we don't have to overhaul everything. Those things just bring us closer to the US of our dreams. That's why it's so important, as Americans, to protest and to question our leaders. The US isn't a country so much as a work in progress, and true patriotism here is working to get closer to that ideal.

Do not confuse American people with American politicians. America is is still a very young country, compared to the old world they are still in nappies. I agree they have had some pretty awful inexperienced leaders. They have to learn by their mistakes the same as we did; when we were a rich nation we used to charge into war and until fairly recently I thought that we had learned something from that, but who knows? Do you agree with and think along the same lines as Tony Blair ? No? Then why should the American people be the same way with George Bush? They are not! Give them a break, there are so many other nationalities in the world that deserve criticism, so try to spread it around a little !

My opinion of America is that though the people are lovely, the US Government has done some terrible things. Spraying the Vietnamese with an insecticide so poisonous birth defects are occurring generations is a crime against humanity, yet no one has been called to account. It is this feeling that the US government feels it can do what it likes to smaller countries yet whines like a school yard bully if called to account that makes many feel ant-American.

I didn't see the documentary. Still, there is nothing wrong with loving America...But in my opinion only the Americans can be loved. The government is far to concerned with power, and not doing what is right. We have lost the respect of the world, and do not realize it. Love our country, but always be aware of our flaws.

I like America, the country, the people but you must be carefull who you vote in for Presidents, thats what lets America down. This man Bush did not even win the vote fair and square, now look whats happened in the world. Please be carefull people of America, you are fine but don,t be so easily fooled by such a man as above.

I think that a country that strives so badly to free other nations from oppression and give them freedom and human rights needs to sort out it's own problems and extremists before looking further afield. The USA have become very conservative and right-wing of late and is oppressing it's own people when it comes to certain things (for example gay rights). If we had protests from mad clergymen here in the UK over gay rights then they would probably be locked up and would certainly not be allowed to shout out the obscenities that seem to be shouted at gay marches/demonstrations. If you cant sort out your own problems then how dare you expect admiration from other nations. The only people who see Americans up on a pedestal for the rest of the world to base themselves upon are Americans. You silly people seem to impeach half-decent presidents for extra-marital activities and yet do nothing about presidents who start illegal wars.

didn't see the programme as to what I think of Americans; I can honestly say that I have not spoken to a bad U.S. citizen yet I still have these feelings that are contrary to that. This is purely because of your government and McDonald's culture.
McDonald's culture - it tastes good EAT IT this is probably why so many Americans are HUUUUUUUUUGE and that culture has been exported to effectively for my liking
