a white woman buys a black child. madonna bought a black child from his father who was an illiterate and poor farmer who has stated he didn't know what he was signing but was told it was only temporary custody. just because madonna is rich and famous she does not have the right to purchase another human being. i wonder where is the outcry from the african american community? why isn't jesse jackson jumping to the pulpit?

bijou - there was a stink made when jolie adopted her kids. funny how they won't adopt from the u.s. isn't it? there are plenty of needy children here who would like a better life. if these ppl wanted better lives for these kids why not donate the $ to their villages to help all the children...

david - thanks but you are naive...she paid a high adoption fee for this child..why because she could push the adoption through in mere days where here in the states she couldn't. you think an average person without the cash could do the same thing she did?

your posts prove my point...if you have a lot of money, power and are famous you can get anything you want. if madonna really wanted to help this child she wouldn not have helped just one...she would have helped the village. there are thousands more who could have benefitted from her wealth and status.

i dont think that anyone should be able to buy another person. even if it starts with the right reasons, who gets to determine the wrong ones or separate the liars from the truth? There are too many children who are up for adoption these days, and there are even more foster children. If someone wants a child in their life, they should look there first.

I don't agree with your statement at all.
Because you do not know the facts. that is why.
I am a parent. I am a responsible mother. I have traveled into third world countries as part of a medical team and missionaries. I have witnessed this horror first hand. Americans are really clueless to this reality. Its just TV to them. The "smell" alone is enough to burn that pain in your brain for a lifetime.
The facts- the child had only ever lived in the orphanage, his father "never ever" had custody or responsibility for the child. They "found" him to sign over the rights, only. He did not make any money at all- it was the agency, government and I'm sure some crooked folks as well. Being Rich did allow him to leave the country with her, yet does that really matter? He is better off.
David's brother and mother both died of Aids in the hospital with out any regard for his well being.
This is not a COLOR issue at all. Its not an outcry of "slavery".
It IS however a media circus that is condemning a woman whom can create an incredible life for this child . Madonna was there building and financing a hospital for that small community She is taking on a difficult job and responsibility of this child. Being a multicultural family is hard enough in the outside world, try being famous and thank goodness in this case Rich too. Even if a Nanny raises him and he is in a private school his whole life, its a better place to be outside of being dead of starvation or disease,
The father of that child was just a man whom "never" cared either way and is "now" making money from the media for this press.
I would encourage more compassion, acceptance and strive for a better overall understanding of the facts. Nothing is onesided.

As with anything we hear in the news, there is always the "real story" behind it. I think we should give Madonna the benefit of a doubt, after all, one does not get to be where she is by being stupid and making herself vulnerable to law suits. I really think the man found out how really rich she is and then decided he would cash in by saying he didn't comprehend what was going on. A high profile person like Madonna knows all of her dealings are very public and open to criticism so she would be verry cautious to do things right. This is not a black and white thing and I think that boy will grow up in a life of love and privilege few people of any race will know on this planet.

uh.. i highly doubt she is "buying" this child to cook and clean for her... it's hardly slavery.....
also, paying "adoption fees" , high or not, has nothing to do with being bought as a slave...! did she pay those fees to the father? or to the adoption agencies? HELLO. i think u are the one w/ the Messed Up values.... ur pictures for one, and saying "thanks" to the guy who said he wants to bone u... gross.
also, yeah it would've been great if she adopted from the US. but she didnt'. this is a classic case of damned if u do, damned if u don't, cuz she's a celebrity and has money. sure it's easy to criticize her from here, but perhaps she really is trying to help out a child in need, regardless of if "it would've been NICER" if she had adopted the whole orphanage...how do u know if she donated money to them or not? maybe she donated to many orphanages and decided to adopt from one? regardless of it's a ploy for publicity or not, this child is living a much greater life than he would in that orphanage. also there was a statement by the father saying he was GLAD madonna came and adopted his son, and he was criticizing the press! so what about that, nice how u ignore that statement....

Why does everything always have to turn into a black/white thing. Did everyone flip when Nicole Kidman or Angelina Jolie adapted??? I find it ridiculous. These children will have a better life. I highly doubt the man Madonna adopted from was confused. He changed his story after that. What it boils down to is money hungry people.

G'day Sinfully Sweet,
Thank you for your question.
It certainly sounds like a difficult situation as nonone knows the situation. However, his father told the Hindu newspaper in India that:
"I am afraid Madonna may get angry and frustrated and decide to dump my son because of these people," said Mr. Banda, referring to criticism from human rights activists in Malawi that officials there had bent the law to speed the adoption process. "These so-called human rights activists are harassing me every day, threatening me that I am not aware of what I am doing," he said. "I'm afraid David may be sent back and the orphanage may not even accept him back. So where will he end up? Here? He will certainly die."
He said some activists tried to visit him on Wednesday. "I hid from them. I didn't want to see them. They want me to support their court case, a thing I cannot do for I know what I agreed with Madonna and her husband," said Mr. Banda.
In other stories, Mr Banda was hoping to take his child back once his circumstances improved.
We should all step back and look at what is in the best interests of the child.
I have attached sources for your reference.
Regards
