We'll probably go with some type of synthetic product. I don't know too much but someone here in Texas has invented a gas from corn products. Now I don't know if that's where ethanol comes from or not. I for one would love to have a solar powered home with the wind turbines and solar panels. Think of the savings. I just don't have the money to convert to that right now.

The 30 year estimate was calculated using junk science, and meant to scare people. That being said, the only solution anywhere near fruition is nuclear. Hydroelectric is just about maxed out without HUGE terraforming, and the problem with batteries is that they store energy, not create it.
As for solar and ethanol, the sad, seldom publicized truth is that with today's technology, both currently consume more than they produce. To make ethanol, you have to grow crops, usually corn. You use more energy (in the form of fuel for the tractor and energy for distilling the ethanol) in making the ethanol than you get out of the ethanol when its done.
Currently, the manufacture of industrial solar pannels consumes more energy than the completed solar pannel will give back during its useful life.
Technology exists to make nuclear power far safer and thousands of times cleaner than it is now. This technology was accidently nixed by the Nixon administration in his completely retarded energy bill. As counter intuitive as it sounds, if you want to save the planet we need to be utilizing the most hated and feared of all energy sources... nuclear reactors

Other fossil fuels (coal, gas). Nuclear power technology is developing quickly; they believe they've come across a way to make nuclear power without the radioactive waste caused. Maybe that'll play a major part in more developed countries. Less developed countries would rely more on renewable energy sources, as although they don't produce as much, the demand for power tends to be less in these types of country.
Maybe if America stopped being a **** then fuel would last longer?

We won't run out of oil anytime soon. I'm sure there is much more of the stuff than they want us to believe. Until then, I am hoping that we will continue to work on finding a safe alternative fuel.

Oil's not running out in 30 years so not sure where you got that from.
The most common alternative fuel used now is Bio Diesel which is made from corn and soy. Its also converted in to E85 fuel that can be used in gasoline engines.

Hamsters. Millions and millions of little hamsters running on little wheels generating enough energy to run the planet.

You really need to do research. The earth has over 100 years of oil left, and that is only the oil fields we know about.
Get smart, will ya?

In South Africa we are working on a big project to produce diesel from corn. I'm not sure how it works but it would be great
