This year, or in the history of baseball? This year, the Cardinals won the World Series, so they proved to be, and will be recorded as, the best team for 2006. Historically, those Damn Yankees have the most World Series wins, and should be considered the best team.

i say the tigers. yea, they lost in the WS but they lost to a great team that has been there in real recent history. the tigers are not far removed from the 2nd worst season in baseball, and to have this kind of turnaround is amazing. they haven't hit their peak yet. they have a very young rotation and relief staff that for most of the year was the best in baseball with wins and era and saves and holds. while the mets and cards and yanks have very well hit their peak as far as talent goes, the tigers are still peaking and they don't even need to make any changes.

If you looked on paper the Yankees had the best team in baseball by far but their pitching didn't hold up and their vaunted offense didn't come through when it was needed.
There is an intangible that makes up a championship team and the St Louis Cardinals had lots of it.

Usually after the World Series, it's the team that won the World Series. Therefore, I give it to the Cards!!

For me it will always be the Atlanta Braves, but since the Cardinals won the World Series, I would say that, right now, they are the best team in Baseball.

You should say the Cards for winning the World Series but personally I thought throughout the season it was the Mets.
