NOT AT ALL is it "unusual." Consider the reasoning behind this. - Maybe the Phys. Ed teacher is being held responsible for the condition of the Gymnastics room / hall. Maybe the school ADMINISTRATION has asked the faculty to take better care of the building so as to reduce the building upkeep costs.
This could be a situation caused by many factors. - Just ask (whoever might have an inside scoop) more faculty, administrators, board members so I'm sure you will get an answer (maybe not the one you want - but you will get an answer.)

I supervise the community ed groups evenings and weekends. We INSIST on non black/marking soles. The shoes leave huge marks and scratches on the floors. It's a pain to get up, often taking an entire weekend for custodians to strip and redo the flooring. This costs big $$$, $22.50 an hour for overtime and the schools need at least 2 people to do it!

no, at my friends school they have this rule where year 7s & 8s have to wear shorts and top etc. bought from the school with the schools logo on which is over triple the cost of the stuff with the old logo on (the only difference is the new one is a lighter shade of blue) which can be bought anywhere by anyone in years 9, 10 or 11 and worn.

you cant even tell the new one is a lighter shade unless you are comparing the two next to each other close up, i think its stupid

Its about leaving marks on the gym floor. Many dark soled shoes will not leave marks, but many do. Rather than go by a case by case set, the rule is simple and applies to everyone.

No I don't. You would however think it was absurd if you ruined the finish on the gym floor by wearing the wrong shoes and you had to pay for it to get cleaned. Your teacher and school has every right to make you wear the proper shoes.

no as blacked soled trainers leave marks on the hall floor, white ones do not. your gym teacher just wants to preserve the area and look of the hall...its the same in most schools, colleges and universitys (at my uni we are not allowed entery if we have black soles)

no it is not absurd..the janitor will quit due to scuff marks. then youll have a home game and the visitor will see the scuffed floor and the school admin will be ashamed..its endless as to why you should only wear white soled shoes.

because the floor is expensive so stop using yer grubby black soled shoes, thereby causing us poor taxpayers having to fork out for another gym floor! Do as you're told!

No. Because the other ones tend to leave black marks on the gym floor.
