For now my help will come from long distance. The community is poor. Some residents don't have cars. Some of the older adults may not read or write.I'm not sure.

Many businesses refurbish computers for schools in need. Look in your community for businesses willing to donate computers.

A book drive and money collection is a good place to start. Ask your local bookstores for donations as well.

Many publishers may be willing to help or offer discounted books.

Most importantly go to the community and the school's parents. The first wave of help needs to come from them.

Why not start with a simple book donation drive? Most families have books that the kids have outgrown or were given to them by a well meaning relative that didn't realize the book isn't the kid's tastes.

Simply get the word out that you are accepting gently used or new books to be used at the school library.
Be sure to give guidelines regarding appropriateness - age of readers, a "wish list" of books you really want to have, etc.

Once you get started on it I am sure other people in the community will be there to pitch in and help you with this. Good luck!!!
