Distribute the left side. Get rid of x-es on one side or the other by adding the opposite (or negative). On the opposite side, subtract the constant. You should get one of two things:
a. 3x=12
b. 0=11
c. 0=0
...or something similar to the above.
If you got a, divide by the co-effecient of x. If you got b, there is no solution. If c, then everything is a solution.
