Depending on the brand of equipment you go with will affect the price. At the beginning of this year they quit making air conditioners that have a SEER rating less than 13. If you want top of the line ask for a Trane 19 SEER air conditioner. It won't be cheap though. Is your "air handler" a furnace or just an "air handler"? Is the 3 ton you gave for the size the size of your A/C or of the blower inside your "air handler"? Feel free to email me with the answers to my questions and I will be more than happy to assist you with what you need.

If you already have duct work and piping, you can spend $7000. If you have to have all that, you can spend $10,000. People will low ball you though and tell you all kind of cheap prices, telling you the equipment is top of the line. If you want good equipment you want high 15+ SEER rating, and brand that is nationally recognized. Just be careful, some people are crooks.

i switched from a heat pump to a standard gas furnace system, they are just so much better. to have the gas line installed and the heat pump and old a/c unit removed and new furnace and a/c installed it was $7,000. you should check with your local utility company to see if they offer rebates when you purchase energy star appliances. i think we got about $250 back.

I just got a new ac, 3 ton heater and all new ducts for about $5,000. It's a 3000 sq ft house. I was told that that was a pretty good price.

It depends greatly on what you choose. I would stay away from higher SEER units - they are more complicated (like using two compressors for greater efficiency) and thus are less reliable.
