It depends or your pesonality. Do you feel more comfortable around blue collar or white collar people? I have worked in the white collar world for most of my life, but for about one year I worked blue collar and left because I didn't think of it as sucessful. Now, I wish I could go back. So, I recommend you talk to a career councilor at the school your thinking about going to and ask: what is the pay difference? what is the employment rate? and what duties are required? And/OR Call up a plumber and schedule an appointment to interview him and an IT person: Tell them you have a school paper and you need to do a report on what it is like to be a... Most people love to talk about themselves, so the won't say no.

Good Luck!!!

I don't know about IT but my husband went to college and trained to be a plumber for three years (there was supposed to be a shortage....there is not) i don't know your age but as my husband found out nobody really wants to take you on because you have not got the experence and IF you can find someone who will they want to pay a pitance, so if like my husband you have a morgage and kids to feed it will be a hard choice.

I'm in the same boat. IT is more appealing but apparently there isn't as many job opportunities as before. The thought of cleaning someones blocked sink is something I wouldn't want to stomach day in. Ever thought about being an electrician. Theres a skills gap, your out the office and with none of the nasty jobs

Plumber. IT market is saturated unless you have substantial management skills or significant leadership qualifications.
