We really want to get out of Cali. I have a 12 year old and an 8 year old I need suggestions with good schools and good places to raise kids.

Where are you in CA? Try northern California (north of Sacramento). I like Southern Oregon too, but they can be less than friendly to Californians. I moved up to Alaska a few years back, but its not for everybody. Plus, its not great for kids. The schools are not great and unless your kids are very outdoorsy they're going to get bored and find trouble up here.

Georgia is a nice state to raise a family the only thing that sucks is bugs in the summer time though. Cali is a nice place to live I lived in Sacramento. Other states would be North Carolina is decent. South Carolina is okay for raising a family but its pretty boring. Oh yeah the only thing thats bad about Cali is that the cost of living is really high and they have energy crisis sometimes. Usually in southern states the cost of living is really good and you can find nice houses for decent prices compared to what you would pay for a house up north. For instance I have seen houses up north that are say 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and the house is over $200,000 to $300,000. In the south a house like that can cost $100,000. For prices of $200,000 or $300,000 in the south you could get a 4 to 5 bedroom house for that amount.

My children were born in Arizona and my daughter went to school here up to the 4th grade and my son the 1st. Then I had to move to Calif. because of my parents. That was the biggest mistake of my life.
My daughter was ahead of her class there and she was teaching other kids how to read and write. My son already knew the alphabet and x's table to 12. they had not even started the 5x table there. This was in Sunnyvale, Ca. If I could have I would have come back here and stayed. They would have gotten a very good education then what they did in CA.
We retired here in Arizona 3 years ago and the weather is good for your health and the schools are even better now.
Cost of living is cheaper. Buying a house is cheaper then even Utah (besides its cold there) Right now they are having snow and I am still having temps in the 90's ..
Good luck on your decision.

Hello justwondering:
I'm from Alberta, Canada but I have traveled all through the
United States.
The most beautiful, the most friendliest and the most impressive State that i have ever had the pleasure of being in is North Carolina ! The Southern hospitality of North Carolina is head over heals greater than the other Southern States.
I myself would hope to retire there since there isn't a bad word that can be said about it!!
Thanks

If you want to stay out west, then I'd suggest Washington State. Maybe the Seattle area. If you want to re-locate to the east then consider the states of, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Kentucky or Tennessee.

I moved from California to the Pacific Northwest. The climate is not quite as pleasant in the winter, but summers are delightful. You will find that renting a truck to move out of California costs about ten times as much as to rent the same truck to move the other way.

I live in Texas i know lots of people hate us b/c of Bush but there are lots of jobs here and good schools. I will soon be applying to college and there are so many high ranked colleges here it is quite amazing. There is plenty of housing for any income level and there are both high and low populated areas so if you like country or city life you can find both within an half and hr of each other.

There will be good and bad schools everywhere you go... you need to decide on the size of place you'd like to go, whether you want mountains, plains, ocean, desert etc...

If I were going to move to another place i'd pick Northwest Wyoming, Bozeman, Montana, a smaller city in Washington, Boise Idaho, or Maine...
