is it an adjustment on fuel? i just did a rebuild..... after 260k miles, for the first time, a month ago, and tranny 2months ago.... talk about relyability.*

anyways is it in the distributer cap? turn it? or is it the ratio is messed up?

Could be the timing is off or the spark advance isn't hooked up. And you're getting a preignition clatter. Hope this helps.Master tech 40 yrs.

Based on what I'm reading I can't feel very certain about anything. Have you ruled out an exhaust leak though? Especially sonce you just put the engine back in, you may have a leaking gasket, cracked manifold, loose exhause bolt, etc. I'd look into that. But without hearing the noise... well, you know.
