The seasons result from the Earth's axis being tilted to its orbital plane; it deviates by an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees of arc. Thus, at any given time during the summer or winter, one part of the planet is more directly exposed to the rays of the Sun. This exposure alternates as the Earth revolves in its orbit. At any given time, regardless of season, the northern and southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons.

The diagrams at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Season will make it much clearer.

As time goes by, spring turns to summer, summer turns to autumn, autumn turns to winter and eventually winter becomes spring again. The years roll by and the Earth keeps spinning around the Sun.

Why, though, do these different seasons of the year occur? The simple answer is that it's due to the Earth being tilted at an angle of about 23.5° and to its rotation around the Sun.

The seasons exist due to Earth's tilted axis. The Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees. The tilt causes the sun's rays to hit at a certain angle.

cuz the sun goes around the earth, and depending how close or far it is to certain regions is how hot or cold it will be.

as the earth also rotates on its axis, our area that is hit by the sun is farther away... so the sunlight reaches us Later than it used to, so we have more time to sleep...which is why it is Darker earlier. we have to switch the clock back so that it's not "too dark"..and in the summer, we lose an hour cuz the sun reaches us Earlier, and we have to wake up "earlier" to get most of the sun

Due to elliptical nature of earth orbit around sun. Just a matter of how far away you are from the sun.
