The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team says it pretty well:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone security model,...ActiveX (etc)...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878

Because IE7 is 100% unpatched, it's easier to steal your ID etc

Proof of insecurity:

On top of this, IE7 supports web standards very poorly and this drives up the cost of web developing, leaving us consumers ultimately paying the bill.
Compare the results of the web standards test:

The test results are suppose to look like this:

Firefox 2 results (admittedly, not perfect):

IE7 results (Horrible!!!):

Opera results (perfect):

You can try the test here to see that I'm not bu11 sh1ting you:

IE 7 with this caveat. You must be running XP Pro with SP2 or be a Vista beta tester for IE 7 to be the best choice.

Firefox.

However, if you tweak the features and disable things like ActiveX and third-party cookies on IE, you may be able to get something quite interesting.
