I have a '96 Nissan 200sx. The engine check light was on. behind the radio deck and convenient cup holder, there was a metalic box with a switch that allowed me to turn off the engine check light manually. so i did. i didnt remove any wires or any fuses, and i put all the screws back into place and now my car will not start. i hear clicking like the car wants to start but there is no smell of gas. so i hope someone can help me out. whats going on?

If it's clicking you most likely need a new starter or battery. Try jump starting it.

There is no box that manually allows you to turn off the check engine light, unless somebody rigged something. Your vehicle needs to be diagnosed by a professional.

Hmm...did you try to turn that switch back on and start it?

I've never heard of a switch to turn off the Check Engine light. That light is there for a reason, and unless someone has "rigged" a switch to turn it off, there's only one way to turn it off, and that involves repairs.

Try returning everything to its original position and starting it. When you get it started, take it to a mechanic and get it fixed.

Sounds like the battery is down. Charge it and try again. If you live where the weather is cold, a lot of people with weak batteries are experiencing this. Hope this helps.

It is a turbo car, isn't it ?
Check engine light on means various things going on here!
1) if catylized, air-gas mixture not appropriate.
2) Spark plugs very used.
3) no gas in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (check gas Gage)
4) electrical dysfunction.
5) leads rotten......
Call assistance, but first switch engine on for 2', without stepping
at throttle, in laps.-
good luck!
