In the beginning, newspapers and blogs seemed to be two different worlds. But increasingly newspapers have tried to tap in this market.

I want to know whether any newspaper websites have created a separate space in their sites for bloggers, who write for their blogs and at the same time, let the papers reprint their articles on the papers' sites.

Is it working like that?

The Guardian like to pretend they have, but all their blogging section seems to be is reprints of articles from paid journalists from other parts of their site, in order to capitalise on a fashionable term.

Many UK newspapers have their own blogs. Some newspapers, such as the Daily Mail, continue to attack blogs in their columns. Journalists do not like blogs and bloggers because they fear their jobs may disappear - this may happen but not yet. In the meanwhile, the numbers of people blogging grows by the hour.

My argument is that news is a conversation and not a lecture and that newspapers do not carry news, they carry comment, especially 'leader comment' which is not what most people want these days.

Few papers use blogs, mainly for fear of libel and innacuracies. Blogs are not subjected to any regulation, they're not peer reviewed and, in the main, are largely ignored by those they decry.

Newspapers, on the other hand (aside, obviously, from the red tops), are seen as reliable sources of information, and while not impartial, they try to keep far from libel.

I thought The Washington Post and New York Times did this. I subscribe to both online and thought I'd seen it on there.
