OPEC, and the Sheikdoms it supports, would be dealt a financial blow. Clandestine petro-dollars that fund terrorism would shrink.
I could continue in such a vein, but these two reasons seem like positives to me.

The Amercian eco-system would be even more trashed than it is. But at least they would be messing up thier own portion of the planet instead of leaving the mess for someone else to deal with.

we would have to give up the SUV and the big internal combustion engines like in muscle cars and trucks. The V-8 and maybe even the V-6 will have to go bye-bye.

the first answer sums it up. If we don't buy foreign oil, it would hurt oil producing economies more than our own company.
