It sounds corny... but Love coupons. If you have publisher on your puter, you can make them yourself. I make them for my wife all the time & she appreciates them. You could put on one : This coupon good for a 20 minute foot massage, or Candlelit dinner for 2 under the stars, or picnic at the park. Whatever you want. Make up as many as you like, put them together in a book or just hang onto them & give her one every so often. You can find some pretty good one's online too.
Women like store bought things, but for the most part, they like things guys come up with by using their imaginations. Home made dinners, flowers, cards, collectibles...
Candy is an iffy thing. It's good once in a while, but I'd stay away from sweets during the holidays, simply because Halloween is nothing but sugar, Thanksgiving & Christmas candies, pies, cakes & other goodies. Women like sugary things, but don't want to have to make those New Year's Resolutions to lose whatever we gained.

Whenever u go to a shop for anything at all, look around as u walk through the aisles. If u find some trinket or piece of clothing or anything u find intriguing, buy it. It need not be expensive at all. Actually, it's better if not expensive.
If it's not her brithday or the date of an important event, call it an unbirthday gift. She will be pleased by ur thoughtfulness.
It works with me everytime.

I think a great gift which my boyfriend has given me custom made CD's. He put songs on the CD which reminded him of me. I think this is way better than a gift that costs a lot of money, because it shows he really thought about what he wanted to give me.
Good luck!

An original idea would be something you thought of on your own.
Go to a store she likes to shop at for non-essentials: A gift shop or specialty store. Buy something beautiful and decorative for her home or bedroom.
Don't buy everyday items like lotion, underwear, or spa stuff.
Buy something that will last...something that she can cherish for many years.

Make a card and write a simple poem, even if you're not that good and poetry. That's what my dad did for my mom 19 years ago and she still treasures it:).
