Pretty much! Your have to be thicker skinned than the "shark" that you work for.

That's why you demand a raise every 3-6 months and make yourself invaluable to any of them that "each" want you.

I was a legal asst. in an Entertainment company. [huge corp.] Then was promoted into accounting, (better for me) and got to look at the books...and whoa!

I witnessed a "bidding WAR" over a legal secretay/PA, she walked away with two months(yes for real vaca a year) and $65,000 for three year agreement with a 1-3% bonus on large settlements over $200,000 AND-get this a company car and double time for OT for any time over 45 hours a week. She made more than the new attorneys and all the staffers. Her old boss was so mad, he almost left the firm.

Her first year came home with over $260,000 for being a Secretary....no she did not sleep with anyone. She was just that damn good. As her Christmas bonus, they paid for a two week apartment in New York Central park- gave her tix to four shows for four people and paid for a car and driver for her. I'm sure there was a lot more. Her family and friends each spent a few days there. Our offices were closed from 24th till the 2nd that year.

Now- here's the funny thing. She was a degreed professional, tri-lingual (spanish/english/french) middleaged, smart, quiet, conservative looking woman that was brilliant in everyway, and most people never knew she was the secretary, she had two assistants to help with the work load of the office. I think that she knew "how to keep a secret" was her strongest asset beside being almost "meek and humble" in her appearance and demeener.
